California first and now New Jersey say EV way or the highway!… No more fossil fuel vehicles by 2035

EV cars vs Gasoline cars

In September, Governor Newsom announced his plans for the state of California to phase out new sales of fossil fuel vehicles by 2035 as part of their zero-greenhouse gas emissions plan to fight climate change and air pollution. 100 percent of in-state sales of new passenger cars and trucks with zero-emission would achieve more than a 35 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and an 80 percent improvement in oxides of nitrogen emissions from cars statewide.

California’s commitment will be leading the nation in this effort – joining 15 countries that have already committed to phase out gasoline-powered cars and using our market power to push zero-emission vehicle innovation and drive down costs for everyone.

In the other coast, Catherine R. McCabe New Jersey’s Commissioner of Environmental Protection is also pushing the transportation market in the same direction with the announcement made on October 15th related to their 80×50 New Jersey’s goal.

She mentioned that gasoline-fueled vehicles account for over 70% of the transportation sector’s emissions. According to their calculations, in order to achieve 80% reduction of GHG emissions by 2050 88% of new light-duty vehicle sales (passenger cars, SUVs and light-duty
trucks) will need to be battery electric or hydrogen-powered by 2030, rising to 100% by 2035.

With this initiative, New Jersey officially join the EV trend towards a sustainable future, banning new gasoline car sales by 2035.

Other states are also pushing for Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050 and have gotten significative changes in their Utilities companies, it is a matter of time that more states follow the electrification trend as mandatory in order to comply with their commitment of Carbon emissions reduction.

By 2050, to achieve zero emissions will eliminate more than 6 Gt of GHG emissions a year and will save millions of lives per year due to reduced particulate pollution, this is all about the Paris Agreement’s purpose. More than 60 countries, including Germany and the United Kingdom, have set net zero emissions goals by 2050.
